Anniversary Trip to Luxembourg

I think it's pretty common for people to trade gifts on their wedding anniversaries. Nathan and I have decided to nix that altogether and just take a trip every year to celebrate. Neither of us is a "gifts" person. We both prefer to do things together, especially travel, so we spend money on that instead. So far, it's worked out very nicely : ) Especially since Nathan has had (and probably always will have) a long weekend off from work for the 4th of July. I am pretty sure we will forever be celebrating our anniversary together over the holiday weekend. This year, Nathan planned the whole thing. I love surprises, but it was really hard to keep myself from asking questions. Good thing Nathan isn't a pushover haha. So on Saturday morning, we packed up the car and started on our trip. About five minutes after leaving the house, Nathan said I could finally know where we were going. He said he originally had planned for us to go to Sardinia (!) and even had a super swanky place he was going to book for us, until he realized the price was reflecting only one person. We definitely had a budget and that place was just not going to work. He said he had a really hard time finding a bed and breakfast type place in a town where we wouldn't feel pressured to sightsee all day long, until he saw something about Portugal playing Luxembourg in soccer sometime in August. So he checked out Luxembourg and found a great deal at a 5 star hotel. And that's where we ended up for our 2nd Anniversary trip. It was the best! Luxembourg is beautiful, but it's not very big and doesn't have a ton of things to see/do. So we had a perfect mix of sleeping in, eating breakfast in bed, seeing the city, doing some fun things, and relaxing together.

We walked around inside of the casemates built by the
Romans in the side of the hills.

A castle in a small town outside the city
It cost 3 euros/person to walk around inside the castle and since we only had 3 euros, Nathan went in and took pictures while I waited outside. I've seen a few castles and Nathan hasn't. He really enjoyed getting to see this one and now wants to make sure we see more before we leave Europe.

After seeing the castle, Nathan surprised me again by driving us out to the famous walking trails called Little Switzerland. It was beautiful.
