Nathan received the most exciting email today...
He was approved for a Euro 2012 media pass!
(Euro 2012 is like the World Cup, except that it's only European countries competing. If you don't know what the World Cup is... Hang your head in shame and then Google it. It's a big deal. Especially if you live anywhere other than America.)
So he will be traveling to Ukraine in June as an official reporter for portugoal.net. He will be there for 12 days to cover all of Portugal's games in the first round of matches. Portugal is in a group with Germany, The Netherlands, and Denmark and only the top two of those teams will advance to the next stage. Nathan will be able to sit in the press box, go down on the field, interview players and coaches, and attend press conferences. It all sounds pretty surreal. He, of course, is beyond excited!
Here's a little background for ya: Nathan was first asked to write an article for portugoal.net a year ago. He says now that he just knew something great would come of accepting that opportunity. Over the last year, he has written many articles and become the lead writer on Besiktas and Real Madrid. A few months ago, he and Tom began talking about Nathan going to Euro. We had been planning and saving to go in June on our own. When Tom heard that Nathan would be there, he suggested they try to get Nathan an official accreditation as a reporter for portugoal.net. Nathan applied straight away, but had to wait until today to receive word that he had been approved. The email and text this morning had been highly anticipated to say the least.
Now, Nathan will be working on his ability to look official and important. And to be tenacious! Tom told him it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get a word with Cristiano Ronaldo, but said maybe Nathan's height will prove to be an advantage amongst the throng of other reporters. Here's to hoping : )
