Nathan and I spent the weekend in Abilene, visiting his family and my brother/his girlfriend. We had a really great time. But... while I was packing/talking to Lisa on the phone Thursday night before we left town, Nathan called on his way home from work with some surprising news. The first assignment list came out!!! We had thought we wouldn't get it until after we returned from Greece. There are only 8 spots since most people move in the summer, not the fall. So those 8 spots are listed below, in the order of our preference.
1. Army base in Heidelberg, Germany
2. Vandenberg AFB in California
3. Army base in some other part of Germany
4. Fort Drum in New York
5. Davis-Montham AFB in Tucson, Arizona
6. Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii
7. & 8. Two AFBs in Korea
The first army base in Germany is not a guaranteed deployment, but the second one pretty much is. It would only be for 4-6 months, so I can't complain and we honestly want Nathan to be deployed while we are childless. We are still waiting on the second assignment list to come out, but it's likely to only add one or two other options. We have to have our top three in by May 28, and then we should receive our assignment by July. I'm a little nervous. We kept saying we want to go far, travel the world, but now that it's really possible... well... I'm just a little nervous. I teared up a little in the car on our way out of town. But my nervousness is also mixed with excitement. We might get to live in Europe! Or California! No matter where we go, it will be a new adventure for the two of us : )
